Dollies

So here are the dollies I've finished. I did the first one in 2 pieces. I used regular worsted weight brown yarn I had lying around. It looked "okay" but I wasn't really happy with the hair, or the seams from sewing it together.

Overall, though, I was pretty happy with her. Gracie calls her "Padme"...

I tried Mel's instructions for knitting in the round for the next one. It will be Captain Jack Sparrow for Sean. I had to put him aside while I knit another one for the preschool auction, though. I'll work on him tonight. :)

So, the third dolly I made was for the auction. Only one person bid on her, but 2 people asked me if I could make them one. One woman said she would have bid if I had 2, since she's got 2 daughters. So, we'll see... It went for $25, and I felt badly, because I only had the one outfit for her. Luckily I know the woman who bought her, and I promised her another dress and at least one knitted item for her. I can't sew to save my life. I've tried 3 times to do the simple A-line dress and all 3 look terrible, for different reasons. Luckily my mom, the seamstress, is coming tomorrow for a bit. I'm going to cut out all the fabric and ask her to help. lol

SO anyway, here are a few pictures of dolly#3. I didn't name her. Special shout out to Mel who talked me through adding the eyes!!

Poor thing, waiting for eyes:

With eyes, and starting to put in the hair:

All done!

With her friend (big sister?) Padme:

Notice how Padme IS bigger. Odd, isn't it? Same kind of yarn, but done on different types of needles. Padme is now bald and in the process of getting a new do. I'll post pics when she's done! I also think I'm going to have to make one for Maddie. She loves them.

Oh, and I'm going to try a mermaid for Gracie's birthday. I've got a month. I better start now! LOL

Ugh! This hat will be the death of me!!

Okay, so I'm trying something new. This hat is tough. You start on circulars, then take off 8 stitches at a time to make a vertical stripe. I started with the seafoam color in the seed stitch. Then, I attatched the white to the green while knitting the white in garter. Then attached the mango to the white while working in a twisted stitch, and the pink in a - well, I don't think it has a name, but it's in a square pattern. Then added the peach color and did a cable - my first one!

Here's the tricky part. Each stripe is supposed to be 7 inches attached and have 2 inches on the top. Well, for some reason, even though I measured each one, they're not turning out the same size, and it's really freaking annoying. I've already added to 3 panels and I'm on the LAST one and it's not going to be right. AAAAAARGH!

On top of that, look at the ends I'm going to have to weave in. What on earth was I thinking? LOL

Some pictures. Hopefully I'll have some finished pics soon. Gah!

Wish me luck, and sanity!

Hola!

Well, here I am! Meldorf, I blame this blog entirely on YOU! LOL I'm a big old copycat with your "On the needles" and just decided that I wanted a place to share all my projects and talk about knitting so here I am! :)

A little background... I started knitting when I was 11 or 12. I must have been 11, because my mom was pregnant with my youngest brother. She learned how to knit so she could make baby things, and I learned along with her. The first thing I made was a blanket... here it is! It was knit on size 15 plastic needles, LOL! I believe I did double strand. My mom did the crochet finishing around the border. Honestly, I still haven't gotten the hang of crocheting!

After that, I did many many potholders for relatives! Heehee! I wish I had one to show. THey were cute, with Christmas patterns knit in (is that called a motif? I don't even know... how sad!) Then, I dropped my needles for a loooooong time. In fact, I didn't even think about knitting again until I was pregnant with my first child in 2000. A friend gave me a Martha Stewart Baby magazine that had a pattern for a blanket, a hat, and a sweater. It also had instructions for knitting, so I retaught myself. It took awhile to realize what gauge was, etc, but I finally figured it out and got a blanket and a simple cardigan out of the deal, and even made another blanket for my sister-in-law.

Sean's blanket is behind him on the rocker:

When Sean was about 7 months old, I found a pattern for an apple hat. I made it, and a few others...

I've made baby blankets, a TON of the fruit hats, scarves and grown-up hats, a sweater for each kid, a poncho, a doll, and am working on several projects right now. Expect to see pics of my other projects in the future. I don't want to be overwhelming right now. lol!

If you're here reading, let me know! If you're a knitter, share that, too! Thanks for reading! Expect lots more in the future!!
